The rumors mainly concern the new 15-inch model. Apple is expected to choose to omit the optical drive. This would allow the model to approach the thickness of the MacBook Air, but there would even be no room for an Ethernet port.
The Retina display of the new MacBook Pro is expected to have a resolution of 2880 by 1800 pixels. This is confirmed by a code line from Mac OS X, which contains the term HiDPI (high resolution).
Along with the rumors, a number of notable scores from GeekBench also surfaced. The benchmark program includes two scores from unknown Apple computers. In addition to a MacBook Pro with an Ivy Bridge processor, a score from an iMac with the new Intel chip was also discovered.
With the use of the new Ivy Bridge processors, the MacBook Pro is expected to achieve significantly better performance. Moreover, the laptop is expected to feature not only a Thunderbolt port but also a USB 3.0 connection.
It is still unknown when Apple will present the new MacBook Pro series. The first opportunity for this could be the World Wide Developers Conference taking place from June 11 to 15 in San Francisco.
